First-Year Islander (FYI) Conference

The First-Year Learning Communities Program is pleased to partner with the Career and Professional Development Center to host the Spring 2024 FYI Conference on April 23-24, 2024 from 9am-3pm in the UC Lonestar Ballrooms.

Alongside the student-led research panels, first-year students will have the opportunity to attend career preparation sessions related to resumes, major exploration, on-campus opportunities, successful alumni advice, and graduate/professional school.

FYI Conference Information

The First-Year Islander (FYI) Conference takes place at the end of each spring semester and is an opportunity for first-year students to participate in a formal academic conference. Students interested in presenting at the FYI Conference are required to submit proposals to be evaluated by a panel of faculty judges.

Students who are selected to present at the conference will have the opportunity to present their work to TAMU-CC students, faculty, and staff. Beyond the honor of being accepted to present, students who are selected as FYI Conference presenters gain invaluable experience that they can bring with them into their future academic and professional careers. In addition, presenting at an academic conference as a first-year student is a unique addition to students’ resumes that sets them apart from their peers.
